Candidates

Only 3 district council seats have more than two candidates running, which means that they will have a primary election. Learn more about the primary candidates below or use the menu at the top to learn about all of the district candidates. The general election in November will feature the candidates from every district!

Voting

Primary elections are on May 21st, 2024. The deadline to register to vote in the primary elections is April 22nd, 2024. Check your registration and view a sample ballot on the County Clerk’s website. Learn more about primary elections here.

  • To be able to vote in the 2024 elections, you must be registered to vote. To register, you must:

    • Be a U.S. citizen and a Kentucky resident

    • Be at least 18 years of age on or before the date of the next general election

    • Not be a convicted felon, or if you have been convicted of a felony, your civil rights must have been restored by executive pardon (individuals with prior felony convictions may check their registration eligibility status here)

    • Not have been judged mentally incompetent in a court of law

    • Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside of Kentucky

    Students CAN register to vote and vote in Lexington’s elections! You must meet the requirements above and only be registered in Fayette County.

  • An ID that matches one of the following:

    • A document issued by Kentucky that contains both the voters’ name and photograph

    • A document issued by the US government that contains both the voters’ name and photograph

    • A document issued by the US Department of Defense, a branch of the uniformed services, the Merchant Marines, or the KY National Guard that contains both the voter’s name and photograph

    • A document issued by a public or private college, university, or postgraduate technical or professional school located within the United States that contains both the voter’s name and photograph

    • A document issued by any city government, county government, urban-county government, consolidated local government, or unified local government, located in KY that contains both the voter’s name and photograph

  • Primary Election Day is May 21st, 2024 from 6:00am-6:00pm.

    In-Person Early Voting

    If you have not requested a mail-in absentee ballot, you may vote on May 16th-18th from 8:30am-4:30pm at any of the library voting centers.

    In-Person Day of Voting

    You can vote in-person on election day either at your precinct or any of the library voting centers from 6:00am-6:00pm. You must be in line by 6:00pm to cast your ballot.

  • In-Person Early Voting

    You may cast your ballot at any of the library voting centers:

    • Beaumont Branch Library

    • Central Library

    • Eastside Branch Library

    • Northside Branch Library

    • Tates Creek Library

    • Marksbury Family Branch Library

    In-Person on Election Day

    You can vote at any of the library voting centers (listed above) or at your precinct.

    Where you live determines your assigned precinct. You have to cast your ballot at your assigned precinct.

  • In-Person absentee voting with a qualifying excuse is May 8th-10th and May 13th-15th from 8:00am-4:30pm at the Fayette County Clerk’s Office. Visit our primary voting page or the Fayette County Clerk’s website to see qualifying reasons for this option.

    Mail-In Absentee Ballots must be requested by 11:59pm on May 7th and reach the Fayette County Clerk’s Office by 6:00pm on May 21st. Visit our primary voting page or the Fayette County Clerk’s website to see qualifying reasons for this option.
